Tuna Black Bean Burgers

Sink your teeth into this burger and let yourself go. An awesome alternative to beef, these burgers, topped off with your favorite hot sauce, fire up every appetite.

  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/3 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 green onions, finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • 2 (5 ounce) cans Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil, drained


  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 soft rustic rolls or hamburger buns
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced, or ½ cup purchased guacamole
  • 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 lettuce leaves


  1. Place beans in a medium bowl and mash with a fork until mixture forms a chunky paste. Add egg, cumin, red pepper flakes, lime juice, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper, stirring until incorporated. Stir in green onions and cilantro. Add tuna and stir gently just to combine. Form mixture into 4 patties and refrigerate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Place oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add patties and cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Turn and cook until remaining side is golden brown and patties are hot all the way through, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and serve on buns with avocado, tomato, onions and lettuce.
